Free Online Course "Living with AI" Encourages Engagement and Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence

The Scottish AI Alliance has launched its new free online course, Living with AI, which is designed to get the people of Scotland engaged, interested and informed about what artificial intelligence (AI) is and how it is used in our daily lives.

With AI becoming increasingly important in everyday life, it is vital that people have a better understanding of the technology and its potential impact on society.

Tackling Disinformation

AI has become a central news topic in the past months and with it has come a great deal of hype and speculation. Living with AI aims to tackle some of the disinformation and misunderstanding around AI by give people a better grasp of the ways that AI is currently being used in our society and work, exploring the challenges that we face with AI, and discovering what AI will hold for us in the future.

Living with AI is a fun, five week course perfect for anyone looking to understand how AI is being used in our world and the rapid changes it is making. It is designed to be accessible to all, regardless of prior knowledge or experience with AI.

"We believe that the Living with AI course is an important step in promoting a better understanding of AI and its impact on society," said Steph Wright, Head of the Scottish AI Alliance. "By providing people with the knowledge and tools they need to engage with AI in a meaningful way, we can ensure that this technology is used in a way that benefits us all."

Course content

Each week will have a specific topic (listed below) and the course is made up of written articles, videos from AI experts across Scotland, audio clips, reflective and activity-based exercises, quizzes and opportunities to collaborate with other learners.

  • Week 1: What is AI?

  • Week 2: How can AI be Trustworthy, Ethical and Inclusive?

  • Week 3: AI and Society

  • Week 4: Working with AI

  • Week 5: The Future of AI

While Living with AI has been designed to be taken independently by learners at any time, the first delivery of Living with AI will take place on a live timeframe, supported by weekly online Ask the Expert sessions.

The Living with AI course is available for free at www.livingwithai.me. It is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about AI, regardless of their background or experience. The course is self-paced, so learners can complete it at their own pace and in their own time.

"We are excited to be able to offer this course to the public for free," said Catriona Campbell, Chair of the Scottish AI Alliance. "Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding about AI, which can lead to fear and confusion. The Living with AI course aims to demystify this technology and promote a better understanding of its potential benefits and challenges."
