SAIA Announce New Governance Group

The Scottish AI Alliance is delighted to announce its new Governance Group who will focus on future planning whilst at the same time providing strategic oversight on delivery. 

As the Scottish AI Alliance nears the end of its five-year period, it is necessary to make a shift towards planning for the future beyond 2026 whilst ensuring we deliver on the objectives. We would like to thank our 2021-2024 Leadership Group for all their work and support over the past three years.

The Governance Group now consists of:

  • Angus Allan - Senior Product Manager at CreateFuture

  • Yunhyong Kim - Lecturer in the School of Humanities, University of Glasgow

  • Linzi Penman - Partner at DLA Piper

  • Verena Rieser - Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google DeepMind

  • Michael Boniface - Chief Operating Officer at Kythera.AI

Chair of the Scottish AI Alliance Catriona Campbell said:

As Chair, I warmly welcome the newly appointed members of the Scottish AI Alliance Governance body, recognizing the pivotal role they will play in steering our collective efforts during this transformative era for artificial intelligence. Their expertise and guidance are essential as we navigate the critical juncture of AI development, ensuring it serves as a force for good and a catalyst for sustainable growth.

Tom Wilkinson, Chief Data Officer at the Scottish Government and one of SAIA’s Senior Responsible Officers, said of the group:

As Scotland’s CDO and SRO for the AI Alliance, I’m excited to welcome the new appointments to our Governing Body, with all breadth of experience and ideas they will bring, helping make sure that that Scotland enjoys all the benefits of Trusted, Ethical and Inclusive AI.

Heather Thomson, CEO of The Data Lab and the second SAIA Senior Responsible Officer, said:
