I have a general interest in technology, in particular digital developments and solutions as it is an area I often support people with through my role as a Business Advisor. I became more aware of AI a couple of years ago when there was a real surge in the media and news about it and I was intrigued to see how I could use it in both a personal and professional capacity. Since then I have tried to keep myself updated with the latest AI news and try out different AI technologies and software. I am really looking forward to being a part of the Scottish AI Community Advisory Group and being part of the conversation about the future of AI.

I work a lot with rural communities in the Scottish Highlands, and each community is unique, however, there are a lot of similarities in their challenges and opportunities. Such as connectivity (both physically and digitally), depopulation, limited access to labour, tourism and rise in cost of living (factors that are unique to rural living). I think there are so many ways that AI could support these communities and local organisations to manage these challenges and maximise potential opportunities.

I already have concerns about access to information on AI. There is so much news and information out there on the subject that it can be difficult and timely to work through it all and find the correct information. Without easy access to correct information, it can put people off using AI and also put people at risk of using AI in ways that are not suitable or safe. That is why I think the work of the Scottish AI Alliance and other support organisations do is so important so people have the correct information and guidance available on where to begin and how to use it.
