My journey into AI grew from my passion for using data to foster innovation and collaboration in underrepresented communities. As one of the organisers of the Dundee Data Meetup, I’ve been part of important discussions about AI’s potential while recognising the challenges around ethics, bias, and transparency. As someone that has transitioned from a non-tech background to tech, I am passionate about making AI accessible to underrepresented communities and ensuring that technological advancements benefit everyone.

AI offers incredible potential to improve the livelihoods of communities across Scotland. It can help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) enhance their operations, support public services like healthcare, and drive innovation to address sustainability challenges. However, AI’s benefits must be inclusive and accessible. By empowering communities and SMEs to adopt and understand AI tools, we can foster a fairer, more innovative Scotland where no one is left behind.

I’m concerned about the opacity and ethical challenges around AI, particularly the risks of bias, privacy issues, and the lack of transparency in how AI systems, like large language models, collect and use data. As someone deeply committed to fostering trust in AI within my community, I worry that without more transparency and accountability, AI could deepen existing inequalities. It's crucial that AI development remains focused on inclusivity, ensuring it benefits all communities and not just large tech companies.
